This route offers us the opportunity to stay in the same place for all 5 days or to move to another hotel in the towns of Onda or Sueras on the 3rd day to start the final route from there.
Welcome to cycling paradise. Upon arrival in your destination country, you’ll receive a warm welcome at either Valencia or Castellón airport, and be transferred to your accommodation to relax and prepare for the adventure that awaits you.
It’s time to pedal and explore! After a delicious breakfast, at 9:00 am, you embark on the first of the routes we have prepared for you. This initial route takes you through the most famous mountain passes of the Sierra de Espadán, including Puerto de Eslida and Alto del Marianet. For the bravest cyclists, after climbing Puerto de Eslida, you can ascend to the Puntal de l’Aljub. It’s a challenging climb of just over 3 kilometers with maximum ramps of 16%. From the top, you can admire the immensity of the Sierra de Espadán.
In this second route, we’ll cycle through the heart of the lesser-known Sierra de Espadán, immersing ourselves in its forests and wildlife. This is one of our favorite routes, as it offers a chance to experience the natural beauty up close. While we won’t be tackling any famous mountain passes, the challenge of this stage will be felt in our legs. The terrain is characterized by ups and downs, traversing through Collado de Ayodar, Alto del Tajar, and reaching Torralba del Pinar—a 5km climb with an average gradient of 7%. Further along, we’ll encounter Collado de Jinquer (2.64km, with a positive altitude difference of 204m, average gradient 7.7%) and Alto de La Nevera (4.00km with an average gradient of 5.4%). Along the route, there are small villages where you can take a brief rest, replenish your water supply, or stop for lunch.
We set off towards the northern part of the Sierra de Espadán, departing from Onda or Betxí towards Argelita. The route takes us through terrain that ascends constantly, occasionally interrupted by slight descents before resuming the ascent. Once past the village of Argelita, we turn right to begin the ascent of the first pass of the route, the Alto del Salto del Caballo (10.33km, Elevation gain 516m, Average gradient 4.5%), a challenging climb, particularly in summer, due to the arid terrain surrounding it with sparse vegetation. After descending and ascending a bit (Distance: 1.51km, Elevation gain: 95m, Average gradient: 6.3%), we reach Lucena del Cid, an ideal spot to refill water, grab a meal, and continue our journey. From there, as soon as we leave the village, we face a tough climb to the Puerto del Remolcador (Distance: 8.59km, Elevation gain: 368m, Average gradient: 4.3%). Once we reach the summit, we’ll encounter some favorable terrain on our way back to the starting point, with some small yet manageable climbs.
Although bidding farewell is never easy, all adventures must come to an end. After a final morning to relax and enjoy breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your journey home. Take with you unforgettable memories, new friendships, and the satisfaction of having conquered miles of scenic roads. We’ll add to your experience by providing digital photos or videos.
